It’s so effective that GJJ is at the core of the U.S. Army’s official hand-to-hand Combatives program. Law enforcement departments all over the nation are also introducing and many adopting the ground defense principles for their officers. Our classes cater to anyone, any age who wants to learn jiu-jitsu, get in great shape and have fun doing it.
Our Brazilian Jiu-jitsu program was established at Imperatori in 2006. We offer the premier self defense-based GJJ program in the Atlanta-Sandy Springs-Buckhead-Dunwoody area. Our program offers GJJ for every level of practitioner. Beginners focus on the combat essentials that make GJJ the most complete and effective self-defense program in the world, while more experienced students get to hone their technique with master-level curriculum and sparring.
Our GJJ program is perfect for men, women and teens. Student ages range from the young teens into the 60s!…so age and size are not factors. Our program is presented in a family friendly environment. Student safety is our priority! Students learn at their own pace in our relaxed, supportive environment. So, if your desire is to learn self defense or get into great shape, you’ve come to the right place.
The Chief Instructor, Steve Brown, brings more than 30 years of experience in the martial arts. WHY GRACIE JIU-JITSU?
Gracie Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu is considered by many, the most complete self-defense system in the world. GJJ offers the tools to defend oneself in a real world attack because it effectively teaches self-defense while standing, clinched or on the ground, regardless of size, age or strength. GJJ is a modern combat system developed from traditional Jiu-Jitsu by Grand Master Helio Gracie. At 135 lbs., Helio discovered that he could use body mechanics and leverage rather than speed and strength to neutralize or even dominate any opponent. Using this system, Helio’s son Royce became the first UFC Champion and changed NHB (No Holds Barred) fighting forever.
WHAT WE TEACH
GRACIE JJ COMBAT FUNDAMENTALS
Combat Fundamentals encompass the most important techniques to build a proper foundation in GJJ. These are the scenarios most likely to occur in a real fight and therefore most important for surviving, even triumphing, in a real attack, including,
- Clinches and Strikes (includes avoiding strikes)
- Take Downs and Throws (how to bring the fight to the ground)
- Ground Grappling with and without striking (includes escapes, transitions and submissions)
- Defense from Surprise Attacks from Standing (grabs from all positions and includes gun, stick and knife disarms)
- Helio Gracie’s “must learn” 23 essential classes
Gracie Jiu-Jitsu was built for self defense. In addition to teaching skills for physically defending oneself, we also teach how to diffuse a situation before it starts. In contrast to other martial arts programs that rely on punching or kicking, we offer alternative responses that emphasize safety within the conflict. Sometimes you don’t see the attack coming, but we excel in providing solutions to “surprise” self defense situations.
The advanced curriculum consists of classes that include: Clinches, take downs, defenses against kicks and strikes, technical grappling, and disarming weapons. Learn the secrets of Helio, Royce, Rickson and Pedro Sauer, all of whom taught Steve first hand.
We pick one ground position for the month and exhaust all the techniques from that position, for example: escapes from the bottom of the mount. When you have the requisite technical capabilities, you will have plenty of opportunities to “roll” also known as sparring, in safe, supervised sessions. We train as a team. Want to train hard, no problem. Want to work with someone like-minded, similar aged so you can stay on the mat….for many, many years. NO PROBLEM!
